I study and write about Pan Afrikanism, Afrikan epistemology
(uMunthu), the Afrikan Renaissance, peace and social justice studies,
educational research, autobiography studies, and critical pedagogy. I
trained at Lilongwe Teachers College, graduating in 1993, and taught
in primary school in Ntcheu, Malawi. Between 1994 and 1998 I was
educational editor at the Malawi Institute of Education, during which
time I also freelanced as a sports writer for The Daily Times. I have
published poetry and fiction, one radio play (MBC) and one radio short
story (BBC), and authored one children's book, _Fleeing the War_,
which won the British Council Write a Story competition in 1995. In
1997 I became an honorary fellow of the International Writing Program
at the University of Iowa (USA), and in 1998 I was writer-in-residence
also at the University of Iowa. I was President of the Malawi Writers
Union (MAWU) 1996-1998, and was founding Treasurer, 1994-1996. I have
an MA in English Education (University of Iowa, 2000), and a PhD in
Teacher Education (Michigan State University, 2007). Currently I'm
visiting assistant professor of peace and justice studies, in the
Department of Philosophy at Michigan State University.
