Christopher Emdin is a faculty member in the Science education program at Teachers College, Columbia University. He completed his doctoral study in Urban Education at The Graduate Center (City University of New York) with a specialization in Science, Mathematics and Technology. He earned his Masters degree in Natural Sciences from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and his Bachelors of Science Degree in Physical Anthropology, Biology and Chemistry from Lehman College.
Dr. Emdin has taught middle school Mathematics and Physical Science, High school Physics and Chemistry, and Science education courses on the undergraduate and graduate levels. His current research involves utilizing socio-cultural lenses to investigate multiple issues in urban science classrooms and developing new theoretical frameworks for improving urban science education.
Dr. Emdin is the recent winner of both the Outstanding Dissertation Award and Emerging Leader Award from Phi Delta Kappa. He is also the winner of the 2008 Association for Science Teacher Education Award for Best paper for Innovation in Teaching Science Teachers.
