I was thrilled the other day when I opened my mail from Enoch and his wife Rebekah and found a precious picture creatively colored by the little girl I sponsor from India. What a beautiful gift! I was also thrilled to learn that her favorite subject in school is science and she wants to grow up to be a teacher (I teach science!). What a wonderful connection across many, many miles provided through Enoch and Rebekah, both devoted to helping this child, along with many other children. Their efforts help provide tutoring services and some of the necessities that improve these children’s and their families’ lives.

Enoch Fernando, an international pianist whose music is most uplifting and spiritually rejuvenating, along with his wife, Rebekah, a recording artist, head up a very special program. Enoch takes his beautiful music all over the world for “love offerings” and then uses them to support a number of different ministries. He refers to his efforts as “music with a mission.” I had a unique opportunity to see him play, meet him in person, and join in a partnership through his child sponsorship program and it was only out of his generosity and graciousness that this happened.

A couple of years ago, before I had moved here, he came to play for a church in my town. It is a small church of about 200 active members, so there will never be the type of love offering that the new mega-churches or even an average-sized church could provide. That did not stop Enoch. It turned out there was a huge mix-up on the piano ordered for the occasion, and the wrong piano was delivered. Still, Enoch played. The pastor of the church clearly felt bad about the piano and told Enoch he would buy a concert piano and have him return one day. He did, Enoch did, and having had moved here when this all transpired, I was able to enjoy the most magnificent experience, which Enoch calls “A Unique Worship Experience.” It truly is.

He and his wife, his father and mother, and their family members in India work on the mission together: through a child sponsorship program, they provide food, necessities, and tutoring services to children in need in India. They personally deliver items to the sponsored children and ensure that the children also receive supplemental educational services through local churches.

In addition, Enoch sells his CDs for reasonable prices, which is a blessing for me because now whenever I need a spiritual rejuvenation, whether at home or in the car, I can get it instantly by listening to his beautiful music.

Therefore, I wish to recognize and honor Enoch and Rebekah, who work even harder during these difficult economic times on their Piano Praise International program to support children with their education and bring joyful smiles on their faces. Times are tough for us all right now, no matter what our station in life, and fortunately, technology affords us a unique and powerful way to reach out to support each other. All efforts, both large and small, are crucial for reaching our common global goals for education and social justice for all.
